The Knight
October 4, 2002
My love doth in a castle live
The walls are Heaven high
Thicked around with ivy thorned
Which climbeth toward the sky
A'times he leave the drawbridge down
That I might cross the moat
A'times the bridge is nowhere seen
So I must take a boat
Across the per'lous lake sail I
In hopes his heart to catch
But still the wall to scale have I
If I would lift his latch
A dragon fierce ofttimes I find
Guarding his tenderness
And so I draw compassion's sword
To lay that beast to rest
Heart of the knight I offer thee
My love, devotion pure
I will stand by and stand at guard
Until thy mind is sure
Til, darling mine, thou rest at ease
And let the drawbridge down
Til every meeting brings a smile
And never once a frown
Patience I offer, when I may
Though it be hard for me
But faint heart ne'er a fair lad won
So patient I must be
Some night I'll tear thy castle down
And set thy spirit free
To soar the sky and touch the stars
To skim the azure sea
The walls put up to keep thee safe,
The ivy boundary
Devices you no longer need
Safer thou art with me
And when thy castle is no more
A new home will I give
A meadow sweet with evening dew
Will be where we shall live
An open place, teeming with life
That lacks in cares and sorrows
There will I love you for all time
For all the sweet tomorrows...
