O Sun
Rise not, O sun, not to-day,
Let me keep the moon’s kiss
For a few more hours, I see
Thee poised to chase her away
In your eagerness to warm
The flowers who turn up faces
Trees that border, grass so tender
All awaiting what I shun
O sun, hide thy visage gold
Allow my pursuits to go on
For from my heart’s desire
I must disappear each morn
Leave this verdant meadow,
With sorrow flee the dawn
To hide in Death’s foul crypt
Til thou hast once more gone
Just once, O sun, do not come
To take away my merry night
Do not send the stars to bed
Do not send me off in flight
For never shall I with thee
Dance and celebrate the day
Once thou art come this
Cursed rogue must ever fly...
