The General’s Prayer

I long for peace, so here I came
to rest beside the lake
Demons fought for half a year
must be put to the stake
I am a creature of the dark
but now I seek the sun
It needs must grant me my desire
Else this warrior be done.

So close to death I feel right now
And Death I’ve claimed to be,
How have I come to hate it all?
It still lays claim to me.
Demons rose from fiery Hell
Summoned by my hand
Shrieking harpies fill the sky
All wait for my command

No longer can I lead this pack
Of monsters from the grave
No longer I desire this charge
Sweet silence do I crave
Apollo, master of the light
And Helios, sweet sun
I beg thee both to rescue me
From what I have begun

This General of Hades’ ranks
His minions would betray
My life of war is nought but sin
And for it I will pay
Take from me whate’er thou wilt
To free me from my sorrow
Remove the dark stain from my soul
And I shall live tomorrow.
